Looking at Lubmin

Photographic fieldwork · Lubmin nuclear power plant

Plates · 18

Looking at Lubmin is self-initiated photographic fieldwork in the decommissioned Lubmin nuclear power plant on the Baltic coast, made during its dismantling.

The plant was the largest in East Germany; after 1990 it did not return to the grid. What remains is a structure built for decades of operation in which only one operation now takes place: its dismantling.

The work documents this state — a machine hall that has become the worksite of its own disassembly, control rooms whose switches are no longer connected to anything, and the singular order of a place that is not demolished but taken apart in a controlled way.

Access was made possible for me by EWN GmbH, the company responsible for the dismantling.
